Why do Hollywood celebrities and other entertainers believe their political opinions have merit and will influence policy?

MSgt George Cater I make up my own mind when it comes to politics. Celebrities, politicans, and other folks do not affect my thought process. Unfortunately, some people are swayed by what some entertainer or politician thinks. Some of these entertainers, not all, think that they are super important, and that there opinions matter more than common folks.

I've often wondered the same thing around election time when celebrities feel the need to endorsements. I've never been in the voting booth and thought "Who would Ryan Seacreast vote for?" before I cast my ballot. Regardless of their political affiliations I could care less who celebrities think I should vote for.

I don't know why they think their opinion matters.

I find them obnoxious and arrogant. Their living is playing pretend for more money than sanity allows just like professional sports players but athletes don't normally preach at me. I'm old enough to remember when the tonight show and SNL was entertainment now they just preach politics. And then there is the lefts fake news like John Stewart's politically incorrect and the Colbert report. Politicians especially those on the left just have to make their pilgrimage to all the talk shows; the tonight show, Ellen, late night eTc. because well there just regular guys and gals.

Well screw it I get more reading work and sleeping done these days.

Why they care? They are extremely wealthy and besides I don't see them doing anything to contribute to better our society other than entertain them through their work.

I believe it's because some of them believe they are so important that everyone cares what the do, wear, how they behave and what they say. This is a place where a family, because their dad is someone can make millions because tv cameras follow them around.

They are entertainers, nothing more, but we have people and kids that believe they are heroes, SAD

They are celebutards, that is just how they think. They want to leverage what little fame they have to drive public policy. What they don't seem to realize is few care about their opinions or whiney videos etc.

Everyone commenting misses the point. Celebrities hold a high amount of influence over the general public. This influence was created by the public. US weekly, TMZ, & People magazine come to mind regarding this. Given the public's desire to obsess over the lives of actors & musicians it logically leads to celebrities believing that due to the sheer amount of the public paying for tickets to be entertained by said celebrity their audience can and will be interested in her/his views on politics. It's ego but ego inflated by the Interest provided by the public at large. Misplaced? Sure. But I'd be interested in the number of people swayed by the Jenny McCarthys & Bill Mahers regarding vaccines.
