The American people and the militias were instrumental in war. There was a battle of 1500 militia men who went to battle with a British army and totally whipped their butts.<br />- Military: although George Washington was not a complete tactical genius, his army with the backing of the militias did win battles and fought for 8 long years despite the hardship of few supplies. <br />- The fledgling government was for the military and for the people. It was legitimate. <br /><br />If we compare this with the country of Iraq we will have a different picture.<br /><br /><br />Mao Tse Tung the Chinese Revolutionary stated his steps to successful revolution:<br /><br />- Elites in society will start a movement. Ditch diggers need not apply.<br />- They will build a cadre.<br />- The cadre will recruit and provide essential services.<br />- They will commit to asymmetric warfare. <br />- Once the rebel army is large enough they will fight the conventional forces.<br /><br />Compare that with ISIS and the American Revolution.
