Why can't a 100% disabled veteran get outside dental treatment?

Just like anything with the VA, you can. You just have to pay for it yourself, or have a referral.

I do, the VA pays my dentist. I have to get prior approval. Mine is based on my distance from the Hospital.

If they can't provide the service then they have to refer you out into the community and that would require a consult from your VA dentist.

If you don't use the available VA, then you will pay out of pocket, unless you can convince them otherwise. Like seeing outside ortho folks, because VA is backed up for 6 months.

Slightly off this subject but still regarding dental services. I thought earlier this year Former President Trump signed a bill that the V.A. would start providing dental services for all Veterans. However, I called my V.A. medical center and they told me this is not the case. Does anyone have any additional information about this and why they are denying those not 100% disabled? I sent a letter to Representative Phil Roe (who introduced this bill) but he was retiring and leaving office so did not offer to look into it for me.

Are you permanent and total? it makes a difference on whether or not you are qualified for Dental. If yes then if they cannot get you into the VA dentist within a certain time frame they will allow you and give you a referral to a civilian dentist. And NO you would not have to pay

The VA will never cover you if you’re not 100% disabled I’m sure you know this however if you are not 100% disabled and don’t have dental insurance try checking out a dental school they offer free dental services in most cases
