Why are points so high on the AGR promotion list? Are they high because nobody is being boarded?

Promotion points for an 89B AGR to SSG, are always at 798. I have also noticed that there is never anyone up for promotion. Is this the reason the points are so high? I'm new to this and I am becoming a recruiter, and carry another MOS on top of that. So I am wondering how I am going to get my E-6. Thanks for any help!

I've always been under the impression that promotions are dependent on openings that need assigning. If there aren't any openings or very few, then the points are higher and promotions fewer. I could be wrong. But, I wish you good luck!!

The Army determines how many slots they have to fill at each rank and within each MOS. They take in to consideration SM's may be leaving the Army, leaving a specific MOS, or getting promoted. They compare those numbers to how many soldiers recently joined the specific MOS at that rank or got demoted, etc. So if your MOS is at a constant 798 that means its at strength or over strength for your MOS. You can try and pull a trend report off of HRC and it can tell if they forecast a drop in points in the near future. But reclassifying will probably be in your best interest if you are able to. Recruiters usually don't have too much trouble getting to E7 in a reasonable time so that may be your best bet.

It's high because you guys hold on to jobs like barnacles. Get some higher ups to retire and free up some slots, then you'll get promoted.
