Why Are Military Bases and closed Military Bases being used to house illegal alien invaders?

Why are we housing ILLEGAL ALIEN INVADERS, on military, and former military bases? Especially while many veterans are homeless? Should we not be using those facilities to house our own homeless? First and foremost our homeless veterans! Let the ILLEGAL ALIEN INVADERS be deported to their homelands, they have and will do nothing for the U.S.A..

Agreed. The taxpayers bought those bases to house US service members, not foreigners being held there until the most expedient moment to release them into society. In my opinion, it's illegal, but when the ones supposed to uphold the law are the ones breaking it, good luck with that.
I have little sympathy for someone who has so little respect for our country as to sneak in in the middle of the night, when millions have done it the right way. It angers me seeing the skids greased for people who aren't even citizens, when our own people aren't given the same chance.
California, I'm looking at you...

The housing of children, as opposed to the label of "illegal alien invaders", was a humanitarian decison only. The law, regarding managing those found entering the country illegally, is fairly detailed and to go into too much detail here would require a lot more space than available. However, it isn't the law that was the problem - it was the huge numbers of children that showed up and were rounded up on the U.S. side of the border. 10's of thousands and more on the way. The option: send them back to the desert in heat greater than 100 degrees without any food or water OR house them temporarily in available unused buildings (military barracks). The numbers of children simply overwhelmed the ability of the system in place to manage. The children were processed as quickly as possible - some deported, some placed in other facilities, etc.

While I can appreciate how such an act might anger some - I happen to agree with the government's decision. The children in question are children - not adults.

In response to the original question about housing our own homeless in these quarters, I am reminded of the time that I was stationed at Pearl. I was living in government quarters out at Barber's Point in '01, (there were very few families still there at the time), and we were slowly being moved out to other sections.

The grand plan at the time was to move all military families out and give the quarters to the city/state as a means of low income housing. When the city/state inspectors came along to evaluate the houses, they were refused for NOT being up to codes and safety standards! It would have cost too mush to rehab them for both the private and government officials to take on so they sat empty.

I think that this is one of the reasons why most (if not all) of the bases are unused. Not safe enough to put our people into, but able to be utilized in case of an emergency (such as they have done in this instance).

I think that you're letting it on a little thick, MSG John Wirts . Invaders? How about a less loaded term?

I agree that we could do A LOT more for our homeless vets, but that doesn't mean that we should denigrate a lot of people who aren't coming here to "invade"; rather, they are (largely) children from war-torn countries. I love America. It's why I wear the uniform. However, I'm not so nationalistic as to turn away enmasse hundreds of thousands of children and young adults.

Lastly, I doubt that "they have and will do nothing for the U.S.A." A lot of immigrants, both legal and illegal, have done wonders for our country.

I paused to participate in this discussion (at least follow it) because I don't know why we are housing illegal aliens on military and former military bases while many veterans are homeless. I am hoping to find an answer. Sadly, I can't trust my government for answers. They not only lie to us but also brag about it now. Nor can I trust the media which has become a shill for one side or the other. Inasmuch as supposedly all here are military or former military personnel, I thought that I might find something different than what is being circulated among the general population.

Thus far, I haven't seen anything new. Some here have parroted government propaganda that their actions are founded in compassion and they are housing children who would otherwise be left to starve, wither, and die in the deserts that describe most of the border regions. Okay, let's allow this as true. Then riddle me this: (1) How did these children come to be there? (2) Was it compassionate to invite their parents to make the attempt? (3) Does this compassion trump our compassion for the plight of our veterans?

On the subject of our compassion for children, I have seen photos of these "children" in custody at immigration centers (possibly military bases). Many look like young men festooned with tattoos marking them as dangerous gang members. Others are children carrying serious communicable diseases. Does their plight trump our compassion for our own children who will be exposed to the dangers posed by gang bangers and these diseases?

Many of these "children" originated in Central American countries. How did they cross hundreds of miles of Mexican wilderness to reach our border? Were they abetted by their parents? Where are their parents now? Waiting just south of the border to take advantage of their children as anchors? How much compassion do these parents deserve? Does that compassion trump that which we should feel for our veterans?

As I said, I don't know the answers. I'm still looking for them. Can you help?

I believe we should drop them on the door step of their nearest embassy with a note - "Lose something?"

It's a tough call but deep down, as much as I dislike the situation, I agree with PO1 Private RallyPoint Member. BLUF, they are kids. It does pull my pin that we've never been able to use our facilities for our own poor and destitute yet all he stops are pulled out for this situation. Just like POTUS's new decision - give amnesty to 5 million illegal residents and burden a system that can't care for legal citizens.

Our Country's immigration policy must be based on the NEEDS of the Nation, if we are to remain strong and virile. Deporting illegals back to their countries and deducting the cost from each country's annual foreign aid package sounds like an excellent idea.

We actually aid and abet these crooked and dysfunctional governments into maintaining the status quo. As life becomes unbearable for their citizens they migrate here instead of effecting change there. We are a safety valve bleeding off their potential troublemakers.

Tens of thousands of children arrived at the border here from Central America, many had been deported back to their home country FROM Mexico numerous times. They came fleeing terrible violence at the hands of drug cartels, cartels that exist to feed American demand for drugs. Anyone who comes to the US seeking a better life should be allowed in. My great grandparents did it... and the vast majority of Americans can say the same. Irish and Italian immigrants during the late 19th and early 20th centuries were spat on and attacked for "invading" the land of the "native born" Anglo-Dutch residents. We came, worked and proved ourselves. Many accepted government handouts and welfare along the way... I know my grandparents lived in public housing. My father was raised in housing projects. Let them in, as our forefathers were let in. Give them the tools to make their mark. They will make it.

It's good empty available housing....minimizes cost to taxpayers...helps insure their safety....helps maintain positive control.....from a public health stance it puts everyone in one place in case there is an outbreak (like TB ).......what's the problems?

Side not in Pittsburgh they turned the houses into low income /homeless housing and it all got trashed with-in a few years......least maybe these folks will appreciate it.

Anyway I am not an expert on this topic but do know there are a lot of women and children involved...who although they may have entered the country they are just trying to make a better life for themselves.

Housing them in this way allows us to document them, provide health care (to protect our own population), and can serve as a stepping stone to having them apply for citizenship via the appropriate routes. (I assume you are ok with Legal Immigrants, if not I guess I need to leave also cause my family INVADED the country only a two generations ago)

I bet you either have the Confederate Flag posted in front of your house or your vehicle is full of these decals. Calm down, WE invade countries, nobody will EVER invade the U.S. thanks in part to immigrants like me. Illegal immigrants do a lot for this country; they help keep costs down. For instance, I just paid a (probably) illegal alien $2,400 to replace my car's engine and he did it in a day. Dealership wanted $6,400 and it was going to take AT LEAST 3 business days.

Votes! Today's Illegal Alien, Undocumented Immigrant, Resident Migrant, whatever term is currently deemed politically correct, are tomorrows voters. If you don't believe it, there is a story out today about DC City Councilors seeking to allow non-citizens the right to vote in local elections and another story about New York City trying to do the same. This is nothing new, over 40 states have at one time or another allowed aliens to vote. All it will take to allow resident aliens the right to vote in Federal elections is a simple change in US law. If they start working now, Congress may even be able to get it through in time for the 2016 presidential election.

The same reason that there are cities that are "safe havens" for felons who are illegal aliens. Because it fits inside someone's agenda, voting block or political gamesmanship. Some may misguidedly assume that Homeless Veterans are less worthy or not as important as homeless immigrants they only make up 1-4% of the whole country. Because of illegal and legal immigration there is a massive 16% voting block to be won that is easier won with gamesmanship than dedication to our nations laws.
