The democrats on the other hand may have some weird ideas for what they want done but they seem to be, at least on the surface, unified in their objective and voice. I think some are getting out to preserve chances at future office because if their at the helm of a ship when it goes down they probably will never see office again.Response by SPC David Willis made Apr 17 at 2018 1:49 PM2018-04-17T13:49:07-04:002018-04-17T13:49:07-04:00SSgt Gary Andrews3552049<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Writing is on the wall, and some would rather leave on their own accord, imho.Response by SSgt Gary Andrews made Apr 17 at 2018 1:51 PM2018-04-17T13:51:17-04:002018-04-17T13:51:17-04:00SPC David S.3552066<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I think there should be term limits - so the more out the better. <br />For what's it worth both sides have people leaving for a number of reasons - <br /><br /><a target="_blank" href="https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2018/04/the-2018-congressional-retirement-tracker/545723/">https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2018/04/the-2018-congressional-retirement-tracker/545723/</a> <div class="pta-link-card answers-template-image type-default">

It seems that the Republicans are finally waking up and attacking Republicans. They see that Republicans are just as great an enemy to constitutional originalism than Democrats. The recent passage of the budget was the final straw. It seems that Republicans never mastered the Democratic trick of making its party amenable to all sorts of Republicans. even those with opposing interests or points of view.Response by CPT Jack Durish made Apr 17 at 2018 2:20 PM2018-04-17T14:20:12-04:002018-04-17T14:20:12-04:00MCPO Roger Collins3552167<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Pretty simple, history indicates a big loss by the party in the majority in this situation. Big difference between being majority over minority. It’s sort of like term limits, most have probably been in DC way too long. Gonna be an interesting mid term.Response by MCPO Roger Collins made Apr 17 at 2018 2:20 PM2018-04-17T14:20:56-04:002018-04-17T14:20:56-04:00LCDR Private RallyPoint Member3552170<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Because the double-edged sword of "transparency" has fundamentally changed the game. Think only a "few" have porn-stars, strippers and worse in their closets? The last decade of politics has devolved from a world-respected process to something more akin to a high-school prom campaign, with both sides looking for any and every "angle" to attack their opposition on. Most of these cats probably figured they were close to the "next slot" in the career track, only to realize running for office in the future would probably be best served by hiring an army of lawyers.Response by LCDR Private RallyPoint Member made Apr 17 at 2018 2:21 PM2018-04-17T14:21:25-04:002018-04-17T14:21:25-04:00CSM Richard StCyr3552461<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I think it's because they are actually being expected to produce some results at a decent pace. There is always turnover at midterms, but never on this scale. It's almost as if the GOP is making it's own silent protest over Trump by having folks leave office. Another way to look at this beyond the midterms is to have a field of candidates that are true to the GOP and traditional Republican ideals ready to take the field in 2020. A lot of powerful names could easily keep the WH in GOP hands while removing someone who isn't truly GOP/Republican at all. And another way would be to sacrifice the House, while solidifying their hold on the Senate. No matter who is POTUS in 2020, any major political appointee's have to go through them. So the agenda gets new life through the ability to vote in appointees who will advance the GOP agenda as various Secretaries.Response by SSG Warren Swan made Apr 17 at 2018 4:02 PM2018-04-17T16:02:57-04:002018-04-17T16:02:57-04:00CWO3 Private RallyPoint Member3552956<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>The jig is up for both sides.Response by CWO3 Private RallyPoint Member made Apr 17 at 2018 6:36 PM2018-04-17T18:36:20-04:002018-04-17T18:36:20-04:002018-04-17T13:41:27-04:00
