Most of the long timers don't give them out except to flag the discussion for admin action (abuse). That said, you can't help but pick up "drive bys" after a while. I'm probably in the 20+ range by now (received) if not more, not including the ones for "disagreement."

I have only given a couple ever and then only after the person gave me a down vote simply because they didn't agree with me. I don't give down votes just because someone disagrees with me. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. If I really don't like them I just quite reading their posts and that is extremely rare.

Do you have an answer for us? I think it is someone who doesn't believe in others opinions or their right to express themselves. I have given a few when the diatribe becomes aggressive and personal. Like the line was crossed between heated debated and verbal assault.

I have only down voted once and that was right after I joined RallyPoint and didn't fully understand the implications of the down vote. I could have made my point a lot better through full comments but I thought the best way was to down vote. I apologized and moved on. Haven't done another one yet. I will reserve those for truly inappropriate and wrong posts versus peoples opinions.

Interesting!!!!!! Does anyone really have the answer? I doubt if it's JP. I always found him to be very honest and honorable! Plus, who really cares about a Down Vote anyways? I have mixed feelings about having Up Down votes at all. It is nice to be able to commend or agree, but in most real situations in life there is not one simple answer, and a person's opinion almost always overlooks something, or can come from a source that may not be reliable. Real problems call for teams of people with different talents and backgrounds, and differences of opinions are useful even if the first opinion is good. Always more to learn. There are so few down votes they are underused.. Up, down, and other opinion would be more constructive.

That I don’t know .. maybe s’body ‘might’ deserve a down vote but it wouldn’t come from me.. i’ve Accidentally hit on it but was able to recover and upvote.. can people be that objective of a comment and give a down-vote ? Only one person has that level of knowledge and they are not on our earthly level.. people need to not try to put themselves on the same level of our savior. Let the savior do that,

I have gotten several down votes, but it means nothing to me. Now I would be pissed if someone down voted me without the gumption to explain why. I want to follow their logic.
