Who played on a single rope hanging from branch when you were young?

I watched Tarzan movies when I was young and pretended to swing through the trees hanging on vines by using a rope. Later as teenagers my friends and I found ropes hanging over streams and lakes and swung out over them and jumped in to the cool water. At some point we hung our own ropes and swung out into the water. At some point we used homemade swings or usually ropes with knots tied in them to swing out into creeks, ponds and lakes.
How many you liked to either swing over water, sail out over water and let go, or pretend to swing out over water.
[Update] After I became a soldier, military water survival training added some twists to using ropes to go into water. The slide for life and similar activities over water were exhilarating and fun.

I started out swinging over grass and graduated to swinging out on a rope over water especially in the heat of the summer. I also enjoyed watching the Tarzan movies with Johnny Weissmuller.

Oh,yes,loved every minute swinging off the side of a hill and dropping into the icy cold water at our favorite swimming spot.

We had a rope tied to a large pine tree and swung out over the canyon. It had big pucker factor.

I love doing rope swings. I'm trying to get a few people together who want to build a King Swing in Arches National Park. No takers so far.

Always did hurt when the rope either came untied or snapped. But it was still fun times.

Yep we did all that fun stuff that is banned now. We used to climb trees, play on the rock jetty, swing on ropes, and do all of the things that get a parent in trouble now for "child endangerment"

We jumped off cliffs into water and out of lofts.... I didn't particularly like using ropes because if you didn't release at the right point, you might drop to soon or too late.

LTC Stephen F. we had a swing at a place called "the point" on the lake where I grew up. Used to take our boats there and swing out over the water and swim all day.

LTC Stephen F. As young boys and me and my younger brother had both. We had a rope in a big tree down by our ditch behind the house that we swung on for years and we had one that we used out over a lake where we camped with our parents. You don't know what your missing if you haven't had a rope swing!

LTC Stephen F., I made the 40' jump/dive many times from Goat Island in Lake Mitchell, AL as a young "twenty something" during the seventies. A few of my water skiing buddies and I made this foolhardy move only after many beers. Fortunately, none of us ever got hurt, but I don't know how!
