I’m only days from re-enlisting back into the army and I was informed they are getting rid of the prior service basic training and I would have to attend the army full basic training. Who is prior Service and have went through the army basic again? How was your experience? How the Drill Sergeants treat you?
Also I’m AIT do you sleep with the other trainiees (privates)?

When I got a prior service going through Basic and AIT again I gave them the opportunity to step up into leadership. If they took the mantle of leadership I treated them very well. If they wanted to play private I let them be a private. I had a former Marine E-6 go through it all again. He had even been a DI in the Corps. Hell, I depended on him. He had more service than I did at the time. He was a good sounding board with the soldiers in training and became a friend. If I could have given his strips back I would have. Had another Friend have to go through AIT again. He and I went through reception, basic, leadership school,Infantry AIT and NCO school together. Same thing. Had a couple that wanted to be privates they were upset they had to go through training again. I treated them like the privates they were.

AN (Join to see) - Normally, you are correct. Prior service (PS) Army, Marines, Naval Special Warfare, and Air Force Special Ops graduates are the only exception to the BCT requirement. However, if a PS applicant has more than 4-5 years break in service, they are still required to go, regardless of previous status. This Marine probably had several years out. Alternately, it is possible that the Major's anecdote predates Army's current policy.

How can my answer predate anything I was speaking of my experience in dealing with prior service enlisted individuals. You ask how they were treated I told you my experience. I did not quote any regulation about if one went. PO1 (Join to see)

Wait, rather than going back to the old Warrior Transition Course, they are making people go through the full 10 week BCT, again? Wasn't the old Warrior Transition Course like 4 weeks?

Well yes and no; right now the Prior Service Basic Training (WTC) is still in effect but is being dropped next month and anyone who has more than 3 years of service or from another branch has to attend the 10 weeks. I just reenlisted but is schedule for the 5 week class in April.

I am also prior service E-4 and have been out for 19 years. Thinking about going back into the guard and am being told I have to go they basic again. I am just wondering how the experience will be. The recruiter is saying they treat you differently from the new raw recruits.
