Who has been affected by the Air Force Retention Boards?

Has anyone here been affected by the Air Force Retention Boards? I just found out that one of my sharpest E-6s will be asked to retire early. I should find out in the morning how many Airmen will be involuntarily separated.

I know of one unit that will lose nearly all of its captains to voluntary and involuntary separations.

Maj Walter Kilar I know this is a hot issue amongst many of my close active duty friends. I remember the Force Shaping that went on a few years ago. I'm sure you might've seen that in 2006-2008. How are the latest set of reductions different? I'm hearing a lot of folks applying for VSP and then getting turned down. Any help in understanding the current AF reductions would be greatly appreciated.

Sir, though I haven't been affected, but our finest E7 board has. They were affected some 2-3 years ago, but apparently it's happening again:

A lot of good guys got their pink slips... I was part of it, but my unit became exempt suddenly... not sure why, but upset at some of the guys on the list.

We pulled back a Lt Col Weapon Systems Officer (WSO) who has been out of the airplane for almost a decade because we are so short on WSOs...then we RIF'd 3 WSOs in a different year group, including one with six deployments, on evaluator orders.

So far the tally from this latest RIF in terms of people I know:
- 1 TSgt (my little brother) - involuntary separation at 16.5 years (right after the birth of his daughter)
- 1 Captain (my co-worker) - involuntary separation at 5 years.
- 3 Majors (one was CGO of the year before he PCS'd) - involuntary separation at 10+ years.
