When I was stationed in Japan, I gave my 1SG a ceremonial katana sword as his PCS gift. Obviously it wasn't an actual NCO sword, but I always thought the gift of weapons (swords, pistols, daggers, etc.) was really unique and a great piece of military culture and tradition. Honestly, I wish it was done more often. He really liked that gift and I'm told that sword is on the mantle above his fireplace now.
