I assure you, as a devotee of Political Science, national and world issues, and all things military, I took serious notice. These events have been happening in Third World nations for years. Media coverage of events in Western civilizations may unjustly grab the headlines momentarily, but the right people are not failing to connect the dots. If I catch your inference, and I'm sure I do, it is not what you think, at all. I do not believe that under any circumstance.

I saw several people post something about Kenya today and I pointed out to them that the Kenya incident happened 7 months ago. It isn't new news. As for your question, Facebook didn't do the profile change until the Rainbow flag one a few months ago. Therefore no one could change their flag for Kenya.

I would also like to add that everyone that posted something about Kenya thought the incident happened yesterday too.

I didn't change my picture for either event. I didn't even hear of the Kenya attack on the "news" I heard about it through social media.

Maybe I am being a bit sensitive (LOL, "sensitive" 1SG!), but I find myself mildly offended at the French flag superimposed over facebook photos fad. And I feel it is exactly that, a fad.
What did these same people do to support the victims of ISIS before Friday?
Before 9/11, did they wear American Flag lapel pins in September 10th, 2001?
Does anybody think Boko Haram didn't do horrible things before #bringbackourgirls, or afterwards?
Not to make light, but they remind me of bandwagon jumpers that come out of the woodwork when their NFL team does well, then disappear when they don't.

These scum needs to be wiped from the face of the Earth, their ideology discredited, and their graves unmarked.

I don't get caught up with "in the moment" things such as changing my picture for veterans day or using some app to impose colors over a current picture (who vets those apps anyways?). I do recall Kenya, as I was in West Africa at the time and it was a pretty big deal on the local news.

I get it - it's one way of people showing "support" or "solidarity"...but what are you really doing to show support or solidarity? A picture may be worth a thousand words - but actions will always speak louder.

I did not change the temp profile picture for Kenya. The Kenya attack actually occurred last April, not recently. This makes the attack no less tragic, however, it was "local" in nature (Kenya and Somali), and to my knowledge did not impact Americans. The attack,was covered by the major papers and networks at the time. The university was attacked by Al Shabob at night. They stormed the dorms and then sorted (if memory serves) the students by religion, releasing the Muslim students and killing the rest. In total,some 147 were killed.

There isn’t an ounce of meaningful support by this useless gesture. Before the convenience of smartphones and Facebook they’re do absolutely nothing to show support. Not that can pull their phone out of their pocket, click a few buttons and bam, they’re part of a movement. Give me a break.
