Who can I contact for more info on whether my daughter will go back to basic training once she is healed from an injury? https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/who-can-i-contact-for-more-info-on-whether-my-daughter-will-go-back-to-basic-training-once-she-is-healed-from-an-injury

My daughter left for basic training on April 29, I got a letter from her today stating that she got hurt. They did bone scans and she has stress fractures in left heel, right foot and both knees. She’s very upset saying they are sending her home, she doesn’t want to leave as this has been something she’s wanted to do since she was in rotc in high school. Who can I contact for more info on whether she will go back once she’s healed or to get more info? I’ve gotten no phone calls just that letter. The discharge from what I understand is uncharacterized (not honorable, not dishonorable, not other than honorable, just uncharacterized) because of the short service duration and not completing 180days on AD. Depending on medical severity, there will be a Re-entry Code (RE Code) and separation disposition code (three letter code that corresponds to the reason of discharge) on the DD214 that will determine if she can come back in, sometimes requiring a waiver. Sometimes it is not waivable. She will need to see a recruiter and go back through MEPS. I defer to SFC Johnston and SFC Boyd as they are more in tune with what gets done on this end.

Your Daughter is going to have to sort this out. It's her enlistment. While there, she'll heal up on light duty until she's ready to go back to basic training. This process can take anywhere from a couple weeks to a couple months depending on the severity of her injury. If she doesn't heal properly, she'll received a medical discharge and be eligible for veterans benefits, unless the injuries existed prior to service. If that's the case, she'll receive an entry level separation (ELS) general discharge with an RE-2 code for having an EPTS medical condition. When did you receive the letter? If it's been more than 2 weeks, you can try reaching out to her basic training unit to see if she was sent to PTRP yet. She should inquire before she is sent back home. She will get more direct answers with people that are actively involved with her case, maybe even some type of recommendation letter would help. The army gambled and brought me and a lot other older veterans back into the army in 2002 I was age 46... I had friends that were almost 60 we all ended up at a 100% to over 200% disabled.... We were very expensive soldiers.
