As far as I know the battle of Kursk in WWII was the largest tank battle in history as far as I recall.

American tanks slugged it out with Panzers in France a few months after D-Day but Kursk looks like it had around 6300 total tanks fighting, and in France maybe 200-300 total tanks. The decisive moments in each theater were the Russians and American used the defense in probably defensible terrains to destroy the Panzers.
