PO2 Private RallyPoint Member 1009695

I'm a fairly new Sailor, joined the Navy fresh out of high school and am now stationed in a shore command in Fort Worth. I'm a part of a reserve, active/reserve command and the last couple months I've sat behind a desk feeling like I have zero impact on anything and it's been pretty difficult for me. I want to go on a ship, I want to go full active and actually have stories to tell. The problem is, I feel like I'm barely keeping up as is. Has anyone here ever felt that? You want to do more but you're afraid to fail so miserably that you yourself become a story of what not to do.

Then there's those days where I want to experience combat. Yes, I'm a 21 year old who sees war movies and, well, more than just wanting to be an action hero, I want to feel like I've done something. I can't help but think sometimes, what if, given the physical strength to get through the training, I actually become the war fighter my country needed all along?

I can't be the only one who feels like they were meant to serve a greater purpose. Who all is or was afraid to be a part of something difficult, but wanted to to feel like they served a greater purpose? 2015-10-01T20:35:26-04:00 PO2 Private RallyPoint Member 1009695

I'm a fairly new Sailor, joined the Navy fresh out of high school and am now stationed in a shore command in Fort Worth. Scary sometimes, well a lot of times, but you know you made a difference every single time. You can settle and do something routine and feel good about yourself and your job, or you can challenge yourself and know that you changed and saved lives. The Navy, as all services, have jobs from A to Z and you can pick something that you can tell your grand children about.

Step up and do the impossible, for the ungrateful, at any time of the day or night in all conditions, perfectly every time! But you said you are in Full time support or reserve? Remember no matter FTS or reserve, you can spend time with family. So maybe because you are not married (I guess) and young. You feel like you need something to do. a simple advice as fellow reservist, get a life. I mean a civilian life. :)

Also you can always go active too.
