We were told we could go anywhere on base (minus Perm Party barracks and housing), and eat/drink whatever we wanted. The E.M. Club hosted an all night movie, 25 cents draft beer and 50 cents mixed drinks. All the movies were either Military related or some type of violent movie. Among the movies were Mad Max, Green Berets, and Sands of Iwo Jima. Flags and Americana décor everywhere. Every hour the movie would pause and we would say the Pledge or sing Oh say can you seeeeeeee. Lol after about 6 hours of solid drinking, you should have heard the pledging and singing. We set off a bunch of fireworks, Unfortunately no one warned the Locals and they had recently incarcerated a High Ranking IRA Member in the Prison up the road. They though it was a mass attack and breakout by the IRA. The other one would be seeing my Young Son on a Armored Vehicle at Bolling AFB Aiming a Mounted Machine Gun across the Anacostia River at Washington National Airport. Perspective is everything. Basic training. I was in my third week of training and our TI sent us to bed a half hour early so that we could watch the fireworks out of the windows and he reminded us of the significance that the fireworks represent.
