Cpl Tom Surdi I was a cross between the leader and the old man. I was crusty enough not to take too much shit from the FNGs, but I was also very into paradigm breaking and letting young troops show us new ways to do things. Seems to have worked for my career. I was the #1 SNCO in the Air Force for Intelligence in 2004.

I've always thought the cast from Gilligan's Island a better analogy...in which case, I was undoubtedly the "Professor"...he who can build a nuclear reactor from a coconut and some clam shells, but can't figure out how to get the radio to work :)

We have Flights, which can be large squad/section size to small platoons, depending on the mission. I was often the Old Man and team leader and or supervisor. I retired as Flight Chief so I had about 18 folks in all.
Being a mechanic for cars and bikes I also was the fix it guy, like you. And ALWAYS the gun nut! LMAO Good post!
