Which old deactivated unit(s) would you want to serve with if they were still active today?

Did you have a family member serve with a unit that deactivated years or even a few decades ago that you would have been proud to also served with. Maybe you just like the history of the unit in general and always wanted or thought it would be great to be a part of it.

This also can be a decommissioned ship/sub or aircraft.

Here are some examples:
601st Tank Destroyer Battalion, 6th Marine Division, 11th Airborne Division, USS Missouri BB-63, 407th Strategic Fighter Wing, 63rd Military Airlift Wing, 4th Armored DIV

My very first unit in the Army. 64th Ordinance Company, Fischbach, Germany. It was at the time a special weapons storage and maintenance unit and was located in a relatively remote area of Germany. It was part of the 59th Ordinance Brigade which was at the time, the largest Brigade in the Army at the time with units all over the world and headquartered in Permasans Germany. At the time I thought it was a miserable assignment, but age and experience makes one wiser. I learned a lot there, developed some very close friendships and grew personally and professionally and would gladly return to the unit again.

This particular unit existed way before I was born, but is still in existence today. I would really like to go back in time to the Philippines and be a member of the 31st Infantry Regiment during the Battle of Bataan. I served in the 4th Battalion 31st Infantry Regiment at Fort Drum from 2000-2002 and was thrilled to serve with a unit with such a rich history.

56th FA Brigade (later Command) Pershing missiles, Germany. Intermediate range nuclear deterrent to Warsaw Pact during the Cold War. Glad we never launched any missiles in anger!

The old unit I would like to serve with today was deactivated, but has been reactivated.

VMA 214 black sheep. Boyington was a childhood hero of mine.

The historic 7th Infantry Division (not the special administrative headquarters at Lewis with the same name) or any other unit that was part of Ft. Ord. I have graduated from DLI, and am finishing up at NPS, so the army is finally going to kick me out of Monterey. I've enjoyed my two years here and wouldn't mind sticking around for a few more.

When I first came into the army I was assigned to Echo Troop 9th Cav at Ft. Stewart, GA. That Troop was an Brigade Recon Team(BRT). I learned a lot and got to do a lot of great things with that troop.
