Jimmy Carter and George H.W. Bush are getting on in years and have health issues. On the other hand Bill Clinton and George W. Bush seem to be in excellent health. We have seen Barack Obama visibly age since he assumed office in January 2009; but, that is not uncommon for holders of the highest office in the land.
I request that we keep the responses civil and respectful.
What are your thoughts? Bush the most. I was a cadet at West Point when Jimmy carter was President. He is a vocal Christian who has done his best to act on what he believes is to do even when nobody else did. I became a Christian later in life and while I certainly don't agree with all of what former President Jimmy Carter did, I respect him for sticking to his principles, how he has faithfully loved his wife, and his overall character.
I would mourn the passing of George W. Bush for many reasons. He was thrust into a pivotal point of American history simply because he was President on 9-11-2001. He did a masterful job of helping to bring the nation together after the events of that terrible day - helping to unify us in grief and also temper the nations resolve to act in response. I agreed with many of the positions and actions of former President George W. Bush and disagreed with others; but, in balance I think he did significantly more good than harm to this nation. I would feel bad if younger Bush or Obama passed simply because they are young. If one of the older presidents passed, it would be like when Yogi Berra passed. I was not sad when Yogi passed because he was 90 years old, and had lived an awesome life. That is not something to mourn, it is something to celebrate. In the case of a former President, they are a politician, nothing more. I would feel no great loss. I would honor Bush Senior as he was a WWII pilot who served, so he has my respect in that regard. Jimmy Carter also served so he should be honored in that respect. Absolutely none. I mourned the passing of Ronald Reagan and it seems that so did a very significant part of America. I honestly don't expect to see any such outpouring of affection when the hearse of one of these pass by. No, not even Obama. He's yet a young man and likely to survive long enough for the full impact of his failures to trickle down into the consciousness of everyone, even the black community.
