Ya need to be more specific than just IT... software engineers or or senior programmers/technical leads are mostly filled by H1B holders... Database Admins/Programmers have always been very lucrative, but now with interest in Data Mining and Big Data that field will boom... just saying IT will send some poor vet down the road to SYSADMIN or NETADMIN or similar equivalent to IT Janitor (no offense)

Being a combat veteran should not enter into the equation. Veterans should choose a career that they are interested in. Research, plan, obtain needed skills, and then work at what makes you happy.

A lot of the areas you provided were very vague. What kind of job did you have in the military? I have had success placing veterans in numerous kinds of positions. We just have to relate your experience to the civilian world.
