I don’t mind it, but I’m looking for something that has a decent ratio of being confined in an office to being outside. Both sound interesting and something I’m interested in. Is anyone able to answer which mos would allow me to “move around” a bit? Also I hope to go to the language school and become airborne qualified as well. I read somewhere army is looking for MI to go to airborne school. Thanks in advance!

(Idk if it’s worth mentioning I have interests in going to rasp and sfas in the future. Neither require a language. (I never saw a tango go to DLI). From what you described, I don’t think you would like 35T. 35L can be a bit more diverse, but there’s also a lot of paperwork.

If you’re interested in getting out of the office and language or airborne, maybe look into 35P or 35N. From what you’ve described, each would check all the boxes of things you’re looking for.

Best of luck.Response by SGT Private RallyPoint Member made Feb 12 at 2019 12:48 PM2019-02-12T12:48:03-05:002019-02-12T12:48:03-05:00SPC(P) Private RallyPoint Member4361830

Well you should also keep in mind what you do in relations to your job also relies a lot on the kind of duty station you're at. FORSCOM, STRATCOM, ETC. Furthermore, what unit you're a part of on these bases also makes a difference. For example, I'm a 35P. While at a strat unit in Korea I was at a desk. The ENTIRE time. I was doing my job though, so no room for complaint. The 35Ts that I knew there were too. No experience with 35L. I hear that's a hard gig to get. In a forscom unit, I'm a part of a MICO. Completely different experience. No desk in sight. No actual opportunity to do my job per say. But I'm exposed to more technical aspects of the MI trade, while also doing your regular everyday Army stuff far more often. Any MOS could ultimately land you anywhere, but 35P is likely one of the more limiting ones... I mention this because you want to go to language school and 35L and 35T don't go there. 35P and 35M do.
35N is something that you may want to consider. I feel as if they get set up the best regarding diversity in military career experiences and civilian job matching.Response by SPC(P) Private RallyPoint Member made Feb 12 at 2019 1:18 to a desk, so, pretty much, I found that to be a day to day reality in virtually any assignment, virtually anywhere, that I ever saw...I was at facilities for just about all svcs at various times, and, in truth, I think just about everybody I saw, to varying extents, was in the same boat...I heard jokes about my being in the "Chair Force", I only found out how true that quip was, when I got where I was assigned...if you want some level of variety, or excitement, believe me, and I don't say this to dissuade you, merely to educate, honest, you've gotta make a good deal of that for yourself, I can pretty much promise you...you'd need outside stuff to do, mainly school, when you're not working, basically chaining yourself to your installation educ ctr, also, martial arts, being as you want Army, maybe Army Combatives, I also know the svcs have serious major athletics programs, then, also running, running, and more running...believe me, in a svc world, you work till you're done, and till then, you're not done, I had to stay God only knows how many times till 3 AM in the office I was in, only to have to drag myself back in the next day, only to generally, and quite frequently, get screamed at for being a witless incompetent by cil servants and active duty alike, more often than not...you need to understand, that you're seeking to be part of an unreal stressful environment, tiring, fatiguing, exhausting, aggravating, morning, noon, night, day, evening, 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week, we never close...also, your personal ambitions are your own, not those of your unit, your supervisors will expect you to volunteer for charity drives, fund raisers, do gooder projects of all sorts, aside from school, which they'll positively insist on, I saw something on here recently about college being made an actual work requirement, at least online, truly, I did read that...then, you're gonna want to have an existence outside work as well of at least some time, aside from likely needing to worry about deploying, so trust me, the whole desk thing in he world you're seeking to be part of is, I'm afraid, pretty !much a fact of life in that world, you may just as well get used to it now, as later, honest, for the simple reason that it's gonna be basically shoved down your throat all day long, constantly, endlessly, unendingly, mercilessly, and anyone who gives you virtually the least thought to the contrary, and I realize this might perhaps be my own admittedly worm's eye cynical view, is just, in my estimation, giving you total nonsense, as well as would be doing you a serious disservice...at the same time, please understand, I saw many fine things, interesting things, even, on rare occasion, exciting things, however, by and large, and, granted, what I saw personally might perhaps also rather skew my retrospection, I had to put up with a plodding, continual, unending, day to day, slogging grind, and if I didn't try to enlighten you as to that, though I did find your question unusually perceptive and interestingly offbeat, I'd be doing you a disservice, too, honest, if you'd care to chat, whenever you'd like, no rush, and, as I said, my object was to educate, not dissuade, the work was important, as well as necessary, I just found myself where I hadn't expected, working for the wrong group for my interests, however, I was adequately trained to do it, and, when I got where I was, there was virtually no way to change it, zero, zip, zilch, nada, goose egg, what I've told you, if nothing else, albeit perhaps MY truth, was TRUE TRUTH, at least given all I saw...I did 3 yrs Army ROTC, went USAF OTS after twice, getting recycled once, did 4 yrs active, and was industry around it for another 5 yrs thereafter, I'm total perm disabled now, in no small part because I didn't plan the whole thing right, wound up where I had zero business being, as our Dad had trained myself and my next younger brother, who'd been USMMA Kings Point and USNR, I commissioned him, to go in, without the least clue what he was getting us into, so, of you're gonna do it, fine, all to the good, just please realize, that existence rarely, if ever, turns out as one expects...further, it also, I assure you, seemingly takes on a life of its own, all unto itself, and all you can do is just get carried along by the flood ice of it, honest, that's as candid as I can possibly be, in the hope of, of not totally answering the exact question you'd asked, at least giving you some comparative flavor of what I, at least, for my part, to be the REAL day to day svc existence, I REALLY encountered, I hope that wasn't too dismal an outlook, I'm honestly glad I did it, I just wish I'd been FAR better prepared, taken the time to research it more thoroughly beforehand, and wish to God I'd known more about what I was doing, before I got swept up in the whole thing, so as to have actually wound up doing what I'd hoped to do, being on the clinical side, which, of course, I never got one iota of, despite my nest efforts, as I'd said, should you wish to chat, just ask, truthfully, you did, as I'd said, ask a most genuinely perceptive and thought provoking question, I only hope my answer, albeit long winded, which ie been told I can be quite often, at least was of some use to you, either in whole, or in part, I'd be most eager to hear your thoughts whenever convenient, no rush, whenever you'd want, honest, OK?Response by Capt Daniel Goodman made Feb 12 at 2019 2:06 PM2019-02-12T14:06:25-05:002019-02-12T14:06:25-05:00Capt Daniel
