Which "ism" would you trade your freedom for?

The first freedom you must surrender for blind adherence to any "ism" is freedom of thought. Communism, socialism, conservatism, progressivism, leftism, rightism, centristism, you name it. Debate, even simple discussion becomes impossible when we are blinded by any "ism". So, which has you in its thrall?

Pragmatism. I'm not tied to any specific ideology. And, I don't see myself giving up any freedom to have it.

I have always had a disdain for extremes in either end of the spectrum. (In fact you to either end you have totalitarianism. Good example is the Bolshevik Revolution (with is worse Tsars or Communists?) Does mean I advocate Centrism? Not necessarily because on some issues I lean left, others to the right (some issues cannot be defined left vs right!) but whatever position I choose on an issue, its decided be me after thoughtful analysis.

I'm too pragmatic to be ideologically committed, even though I have clear leanings. However, I can't for the life of me come up with anywhere that did well when a particular ideology took total control. Inevitably, tyranny or stagnation destroy everything in that scenario.

I am not a thrall to anything! I believe in the Constitution of the United States Of America. It guarantees the very rights and freedoms talked about in the cartoon. Sadly, CPT Jack Durish, you are absolutely right that it was prophetic. Too many of our fellow citizens are drinking the cool aid. Free thinking has been replaced with pandering. Open discourse has been replaced with political correctness. The spirit of innovation has been replaced with imported goods. The can do attitude has been replaced with Social Media and Netflix. The pride in service has been replaced with gimme, gimme, gimme. That is not freedom, it is slavery.

I would not give up my freedom for any ism, period.

That said, I have and will continue to give up many freedoms, as has anyone who ever signed an enlistment or accepted a commission, to defend that freedom.

This is so wrong! The freedom of thought is NOT the freedom from thought. Get it right. You are making the classic mistake for Freedom of religion and Freedom from religion.

Every "ism" do share common ground. Yes they do (surprise!). The problem is each individual that having the debate don't look for common ground, they seek for victory over the other side. All the freedom enshrined in our founding paper, all base on one concept, we are in this together. "Either we hang separately or we hang together". Without this idea in each other minds, there will be no seeking of common ground. ALL the constitutional rights we got, is also base on leaving each other alone to do their stuff, as long as they are not trying to hurt you and to steal from you. Without that idea, all the "ism" can't survive together. Socialism and Communism can survive within this land if they only understand this two ideas.

Your assessment is wrong to blame "ism", it is human itself to be blamed, not the "ism".

If I had to choose an "ism" instead of freedom, it would be libertarianism, as it's basic premise IS freedom, which is obtained with as little (limited) Federal interference as possible, with strict adherence to Constitutional limits, inherent rights, and a bottom-up enforcement. Where the idea of group rights is discarded, in favor of individual rights, and are deemd inherent.

Freedom is an illusion used to keep people in their places. Our rights serve no purpose except to distract large portions of our population with unnecessary debate to keep us from being angry that our representatives only represent themselves.
