I just never developed the love for the Commie's gun. Not sure why. Maybe it's just that simple. In my experience the AK-47 is not a reliable as the legends make it and the M-16 is not as trouble prone. I'm more familiar with the M-16 (or AR-15), the M-16 has much better ergonomics, is more accurate, but caliber wise I'd rather have the 7.62x39 than the 5.56.

An M-16 in .300 BLK would give the best of both worlds. To be precise, I have a semi-auto version of the AK-74 in 5.45x39 and a Bushmaster XM15 in 6.8 SPC. I like them both, for different reasons. Frankly, my favorite shooter is a 1898 Springfield Krag 30-40 that a previous owner sporterized. On the battlefield, I like accuracy, so the AKs I have known did not pass muster. That said, if your issued weapon is black on ammo, or has a failure, there's always going to be more lying on the ground, and one shouldn't be too picky. Just grab one and get back in the game.
