Working as a Wheel vehicle mechanic for Headquarters battery 4/7th CAV. The base and area at that time had very few trees and vegetation as I found out in 2000 that agent orange had been used all around the post. We had the base swimming pool behind our huts which would flood during the monsoons. The water would come in to the huts from the overflow from the swimming pool. We had almost paper partitions that separated very small 2 man rooms. At our mini theater we watched movies from a reel projector of movies that we would occasionally get. We had the VD sign outside of the gate and there was much talk about the Black Gonorrhea. That if you caught it, you disappeared. Yong Ju gol was a enterprise of business with the primary being prostitution. The reason for the sign. Outside of the base one day a body was found by a grave yard, happy mountain. The body was blotted and laying at the bottom of the hill. The Koreans treated the prositutes with great disrespect and showed it by not burying their dead and placing them at the lowest level of burial site. Those honored were buried at the top of the hill.<br />When we were at the firing range for our M551 Sheridan that were being replaced by M60A1. At the range when the wire guided missiles were being shot Koreans would go out and recover the wire. It was scary as you knew that some one out there would get injured. At the M16 range while firing at our targets a burial session came into the area where we were firing, on there way to happy mountain. We of course stopped firing and had to wait till the procession made it way around the mountain out of site. The winters were cold, spring wet and summers steaming. The Korean people were very nice to us. I use to go to a temple that was on a hill outside of the base. They had a well where fresh water could be found. On the walk down the hill on day I saw something strange. Some men were standing around a pit in the middle of a rice field they had a torch and were burning the hair off the body of a dog that was on a Spit that they were turning. Some things you saw and heard was hard to believe but happened. It was a interesting year to say the least. If you served at the base in 1975-1976 and developed agent orange symptoms write your Congressman. Many have including myself but we are not covered as the government does not want to payout the support or monies even though it is know that Agent Orange stays in the ground and gets more concentrated over the years with a half life of 16 plus years. If you ate the food, drank the water, you ingested Agent Orange components. Go CAV!Response by CW2 Gale Dorman made Feb 5 at 2017 7:06 AM2017-02-05T07:06:15-05:002017-02-05T07:06:15-05:00SPC Fernando Magdaleno2338688<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Yong Ju Gol<br />79-80 <br />1st PlatoonResponse by SPC Fernando Magdaleno made Feb 14 at 2017 12:45 AM2017-02-14T00:45:24-05:002017-02-14T00:45:24-05:00SSG Private RallyPoint Member2516305<div class="images-v2-count-2"><div class="content-picture image-v2-number-1" id="image-146894"> <div class="social_icons social-buttons-on-image">

I was a SP4 Wheel Vehicle Mechanic at the time in 1975-1976. Our General made Combat Football the sport to let say participate in! Privates- commanders would be involved. Many did not finish the games without injury but the moral was extremely high! Camp Rice was a place of interest, you never knew what was going to happen! Today people would not know the Korea that we saw and help protect. It is what it is today because of the many that served, were on the edge of possible war and military activity between two companies still at war but had only signed an agreement of peace. To the many that did serve in the contaminated Agent Orange areas. Fight and write your congressman, Senators, The President for the right for all that served in Korea to be have the VA's Agent Orange exam. with out cost, with out no time period at least for 10-15 years after the last Agent Orange compound was discovered, distributed and have our records of bases identified that were closed due to contamination be it from Agent Orange or other extreme Chemical contamination. Camp Rice was one of those sites. To put time limits highly restricting helping our veterans from receiving help, medical, physical, mental on verification's of illnesses, identification of degrees of health effects and allowing our veterans to die or live lives that are far degraded because of the environment they served in is in it self a crime! Demand do not ask you are the 1% that serve and protect this country and help protect the world. Our government should only seek to protect those that have served and suffered, not just a few individuals. For anyone to stay it cost to much, we do not have the facilities to handle the problem, we do not have the medical staff. Tell them that with out our service we would not have the democracy that we have and it is their job to protect all of its military members once they have served! We lived in the contaminated area, so did those at Camp Lejeune who are covered by water contamination. At camp Rice, we drank the well water, we bathed in the bath houses, we ate in the community. We were in the depth of the devils land of contamination. The many children born around our camp were placed in homes for many reasons, but many of those children suffered from the issues of Agent Orange contamination. It was not just the military, so the problem was extensive. Remember Agent Orange increases through in take of the food, water and environment for more than sixteen years once the earth is contaminated! All Korean Veterans who served in the areas of deployment of the Agent Orange products should all be covered for Agent Orange examines! What is the government afraid of?
