SPC Mark Beard, I reported to the Reception Station at Fort Jackson, SC on 28OCT69. BCT began 11NOV69 and ended 16JAN70. I was assigned to 3rd Squad, 1st Platoon, D-3-1- on infamous Tank Hill.
The barracks of 1st Platoon appears at the base of the black ink line on Tank Hill. The long one story buildings to the left of and parallel to the barracks were company sized mess halls. Postcard photo.

17 of us reported to Ft. Jackson for basic training on July 15, 1961. We were from Clarksville. Arkansas. Army National Guard. Company A, 4th Batallion ,1st infantry division. Barracks at bottom of Tank Hill. We had a large open area in front of our 4 barracks.
