Where can you find good photography to inspire your own work?

Photography has long been the art medium of the common man. It allows the most inept among us to produce display-worthy images (except my brother - he can't take a simple snapshot without missing the subject). I have studied photography since a very young age. I was the high school newspaper photographer. I worked with some of the greats in commercial photography while in the ad biz, especially while working for Vivitar (back when Vivitar was producing popular flashes and lenses). When I studied art, we went to museums to copy the works of masters to learn the craft. Where does a photographer go to find copy-worthy photographic art? I recently discovered viewbug (or they discovered me - I don't remember which - I'm old). I recommend it highly...

That is a great question CPT Jack Durish. I would be interested in SPC Margaret Higgins viewpoint to this question.
Personally I have long been inspired by the photographs of Mathew Brady in the 19th century.
Black and white photography takes a lot of talent. When done well it is sublime.

I don't copy since its plagiarism but I'm always inspired by Tyler Shields and lJholloway...sometimes Michael Grecco. It all depends on my mood. I'll usually either use Pinterest for inspiration or I'll go based off something I see in my head.

I don't look to anyone else's photography...I look at others work...but when I take my camera out I go and shoot what strikes me...seems interesting.....I see it in my head first........ how I want to take the shot....then I take it. My mom's been with me a few times...I'll get really excited about photographing something and she'll say...."why would you want to photograph that?" I take the shot that I see of it in my mind, then I show her the view finder and she's amazed.

I don't want to be like any other photographer. I want to be unique and therefore I do my own thing. There is a photograph here and there that I just loved and I would think...I want to take photo's like that, but I have never stopped to look to see who the artist was/is or looked at any other works they may have.

Life inspires me. Nature, animals and even the concrete jungle. I love life...all that it has to offer and I love capturing in through my lens...the way I see it....in my head. I love color, but I love black and white too.

After capturing LIFE the way I see it....I put it out there in hopes that it may brighten up just one person's day....

Be yourself - find inspiration from within and don't imitate, innovate. While it's certainly good to seek out other photographs and learn the technical details of how the photographer took the image, you need to develop your own composition skills, create a style that is yours.
