There is no Company SGM, and the designation would not be CO/SgM. The only Sergeant Majors in the Army are Sergeant major (SGM) and Command Sergeant Major (CSM). The SGM or CSM as Senior NCO of BN and Higher is responsible for Uniform Compliance and enforcement within AR 670-1 or Commanders orders and intent and has NO authority to Dictate otherwise. As Any Soldier and NCO knows, anyone can correct a deficiency in uniform. Attention to Detail. Seems a Captain would know ALL of this. You can also look at AR 600-20, which is usually the legal basis for command authority, and obedience of orders. Reading your comment, I suspect you are having some sort of specific issue with uniforms...I've advised on related issues before. If you provide a little more detail of what is going on, that would help. Also, don't be afraid to just ask your BDE JAG. Although I am a humble E-8 I have learned in my decades of service that the "book" may say one thing but command policy may say another. I don't know your particular issue is but lest say the wear out date for the "old" ACUs is September 2018 and you wish to wear them but the CSM, speaking on the Bn CO's authority, has decreed that everybody will wear the OCP uniform. If that is the case, then you must yield to the power of the Force and charge them on your Star Card.
