When you are looking for a job, what are the top qualities you seek in a new employer?

The number one quality I look for is I look for an employer who is not constantly listing a new job. I have had the opportunity to watch job boards for a month or two and see who always has a new ad running for positions. The more they look for people, the more toxic the work environment, and the less likely I am to want to work there. If you're desperate, that may not be an option, but if you're not, do so.

When I was in the military, I vowed I would never stay in a toxic work environment once I had the liberty of leaving in the civilian market. I ended up at a toxic employer because I needed a job in 2015, but I had my eyes open after six months for a better place. However, we had just purchased a house and I didn't want go long on the commute, so I stuck it out, but I still watched the job boards. One kept showing up in a suburb of Nashville that really sounded great, but it kept showing up. Well, I finally went against my better judgement and joined their business. I lasted four months before I left. Spending my lunch break every other day getting berated as a group, and then told that what had been said that did apply to me didn't really apply to me because I was "special" didn't sit well.

So, if an employer isn't always looking for help, they are probable a good place to work because they have a low turnover rate, and that is the number one thing I look for.
