Good on them, but I'm a little disappointed that the Coasties didn't dump an entire belt. When the going gets tough, the tough go cyclic!!!

Thanks Brandon and yes it's not often that we hear about the situations. One key Mission area the Coast Guard over in Iraq has been supporting is the maritime security training and nationbuilding for the Iraqi Navy. So when operating in these conditions you do occasionally run into this kind of situation. Overall I think they did a great job not escalating the situation yet did not hesitate to defend themselves. It would be interesting to get more details to see whether they actually shot at the vessel or perhaps in the general direction as a warning shot, the proverbial shot across the bow.
