When the National Guard and other military members are deployed to guard our Southern border, what kind of Rules of Engagement will apply to this situation? They surely will not be armed with just baseball bats???

The most restrictive ROE you can imagine. If the American media can forgive an illegal alien killing an attractive, female US citizen in San Francisco, they will not even blink if one kills a US soldier. If a soldier ever killed an illegal alien, however, the story would go on for months. It would be the largest miscarriage of justice the US has ever seen, and the story would include pictures of the Statue of Liberty crying bloody tears.

Id love to see an article written forgiving the killer for his crime... holy hyperbole batman.

The media never forgives by writing an article forgiving. It forgives by putting the story below the fold, or on page 7, or by stopping coverage. By deciding for us, that it's not a big deal. But I like the homage to the original Batman cartoon.

I've met a few MP's who have been part of the border mission in the past. It was my understanding that they shadowed Border Patrol, scouted out the land, and radioed in anything they saw. They were unarmed, not even a pistol.

Last thing we need is any accidental deaths due to our military, I personally think its a bad idea to use the military on a large scale border enforcement

Sgt Adrian Jones - If we're going to send them they shouldn't be unarmed though. I'd say arm them with shotguns loaded with bean bag or rock salt, and M320's with CS gas to fend off an attack while waiting for relief from Border Patrol with the possibility of an pistol as a last resort weapon.
We already have missions with border patrol augmenting their patrols. I'm not sure how large scale we're talking though. Is it just going to be like we already do but with additional boots? Or are we throwing ground vehicles and aircraft into the mix? A lot of unknowns at the moment.
