When people ask me how my time in the military was, I say "Good and Bad- Just like civilian life." What do you say?

For me the time has faded all of the bad and I only now recall the good. I loved my time in the service and wish I could have made it a career.

I tell them it was a unique experience that I'm glad I had but I'm also glad it's over with.

I grew up as an Army brat, then joined the Air Force then the Army. As a kid I saw Berlin Wall, Notre Dame cathedral, London, castles, etc... I wouldn't change it for anything. However, I am out now and raising my kids in Tennessee, where they have been in school for years with the same kids and will be. So it's the old question of is it better to have experiences or roots? I have reconnected with a lot of old friends from my youth on Facebook over the last couple of years and I lean to the experience side of the argument.

I had the time of my life when I was on active duty but there were some times that were stressful as well

If you would have asked me when I first got out, maybe glad it's over. Now, I look at those struggles as the challenges life throws at me to help make me a well rounded person (not literally rounded mind you). Today I see my service time as all good.

The US Army was great to me and when I was ready to leave, they let me go. I really can't beat that.

I say I enjoyed my time there. I also get asked would I change anything since I left the military and I say no and I would do it all over again if I could.
