When Did It Hit You That You Have Significant Memory Loss?

I have a bad memory but was not able to quantify it. I have quantified it to a great degree recently which kind of disturbs me because I don't know what to think of it. I watched the Friday Night Lights series several months ago. Now I am watching it again with very little understanding that I watched it already. I suppose this is something I will lament about until I accept it. I think memory loss changes the perception of reality and ultimately the truth that binds one to the world.

When you are literally tearing the house apart looking for a set of keys or for a wallet that you just put down, that is when it became apparent for me. It comes and goes, so now i try to be as organized as possible. I am bad with the little things but i can remember faces and events fairly easily. But with the tearing the house down, you sort of change your tone and unwittingly lash out at those around you. I don't know why i did it. I guess it's PTSD? not sure. I never had a TBI. So in my case it's just the way that I am aging or something.

MAJ Ken Landgren I have no memory loss. Did say already i have no memory loss?
To be serious i do have some loss like remembering names or dates ,but it is nothing new for me it has been like this for about 45 years.

Don't really want to think about it much, it is scary. I carry the Alzheimer's Gene on Mothers Mother side. Odds are against me and I don't like it.

MAJ Ken Landgren, Ever since I had shock therapy at the VA, years ago, my short term memory has gone to hell. I lay something down and I can't remember what I did with it. I start to say something, and if someone butts in, I forget what I wanted to say. WORST, of all, when my wife says she told me about us doing whatever or going somewhere, I don't know if she did or not.
What was I just talking about?

If you can remember how to fill out a DA form 4856 but cannot remember how time sheets work at your job, you might have a problem.
If you can remember all the movements to Inspection Arms, but cannot remember where the oil dipstick is on your car, you might have a problem.
If you talk to your buddies about TV's and you're bragging about the 19in B/W tv you used to have and can't remember that we don't have B/W 19in TV's anymore, use vise grips to change channels, aluminum foil for antennas, or wired remotes, you might have a problem.
If you're watching the Redskins on TV, and you're yelling at the bad QB (Cousins) playing, but the name you call out as your QB was the QB from 35+ years ago (Theisman), you have a problem.
If you think the Beverly Hillbillies is a new reality TV show, you definitely have a problem
If you have kids and one of them screws up to the point you have to yell, but you yell the name of the other kid, you have a problem. (I've gone through this one where I get called my brothers name)
If someone asks you to sing your favorite SONG, and you start singing "C-130 rolling down the strip"....you need a straight jacket ASAP.
If you go to a fine dining restaurant with your wife to celebrate your anniversary, and you bring flowers, balloons that say "Get well soon", and "Happy Birthday", and upon getting the menu, you get mad because you cannot find your favorite MRE or Strike Force meal, but you've been to the same restaurant for over 30 years to celebrate this, you might need to remember to call a divorce lawyer and remember how to separate your stuff quickly.
And if you believe for ONE SECOND that Payton Manning went to Denver just to play for the Broncos, knowing that weed is legal there, and he just so happened to open up 1000 new Papa Johns stores just because (He gets the munchies too), you might be as delusional as he is.

I don't know if I have memory loss or not, but I can watch the same show weeks apart and I remember very little of it. I do know that some memories I have are flawed but that could be caused by depression. Life

The perception post has me thinking. Many PTSD/TBI/Depression people have bad memories because they are constantly fighting demons? Survival is primary and memory is not.

When I started using a smart phone, but I mean that in a half serious way. Because of it, I cannot remember street names, phone numbers, and so reliant on taking digital notes. i have to use my apple smart watch to send reminders to check the digital smart list. Almost like the movie "Wally".

It's handy. I like Amazing Race. I an watch the seasons over and over and not remember who won. It's like new stuff every time. I remember the names of my friends from elementary school bit I can't remember the guy I met yesterday.
