I personally find the snarky comments form other vets a bit distasteful. Everyone who served (or is serving) is worthy of our respect for stepping up.

Last year was the first time I made a change for Veterans Day. I have friends and colleagues who have made the change for years, and I think it may be more noticeable as it is growing in popularity.

As for myself, it reminds me of those with whom I served, the common bonds and shared commitment to something larger then ourselves, and the fact that as time moves forward our ranks will diminish. I will be, and have been thanked for my service long before FB existed. This year, I joined many of my friends in posting changes to my profile for the day. Come Memorial Day 2016 , I will honor the departed in a similar fashion.

Choose to post or not. It is your right and your privilege. However, in my opinion, it is disrespectful to your comrades to denigrate their choice when it is different from yours.

Happy Veterans Day! Obviously the practice is done as some form of attention. That sounds negative on the surface, I get it, but "attention" in, and of, itself isn't nessessarily a bad thing. Besides, I won't fault someone who makes note of their veteran status on social media on a day such as Veteran's Day.
