Calling it such a thing is not going to help. It is popular to call a War on drugs, poverty, or something else but it isn't really a war. There has always been drugs and will always be drugs. The notion that you could defeat drug abuse is a pipe dream. We should work on mitigating the factors that contribute to drug use. That is about the best we can do in conjunction with responsible policing. If treatment were more widely available, more could come of it. Decriminalizing/"Legalizing" marijuana isn't much of a help, because crack, cocaine, methamphetamine, desomorphine, heroin and the rest of the gammott exist. And to decriminalizing/"legalizing" all of those are the worst idea anyone could ever have. Sorry.. First we need a Congress to get onboard, and want to Actually help. Second we need people who have been there to help !! We can continue to throw money, threats, disciplinary Actions at the individual until the cows come home.. to no avail.. The way to succeed comes from the Individual him or herself, no one else !! Its a slow process, however, its relatively easy, and it can be done in reference to alcohol, Drugs, and even cigarette smoking, without the use of another drug.. Congress needs to get serious and consult with those who have been there, done that, and bring them onboard !!
