Most ads, especially the targeted ones, just show me stuff I want which is cool, but that doesn't mean I'm going to buy them right that second. I see them more as a casual reminder that something is in stores and available for purchase.

The select few ads I intentionally clicked were ads that went that extra mile to not only show me what I wanted, but filled me with the urgency to get more information on the product being offered.

For example, I collect books. Well one day I saw an advertisement for a rare limited printing autographed book from one of my favorite authors. I was already interested in the subject matter from the start. But the limited stock pushed me over the line from casual observer to actual consumer. So I jumped at the opportunity so I didn't miss out. My first purchase met my expectations so I made another purchase. Soon enough I became a regular customer including subscribing to their mailing list for upcoming in stock items. All because they were able to push me to click on their advertisement.
