If I was there I would try to help, first verbally trying to help. SGT Kevin Putala, If that didn't work I would try to distract the assaulter and help the woman get away.

Years ago, while stationed at Fort Knox, I witnessed a male beating the crap out of his female companion and I jumped out of my car, ran over and physically intervened. She wound up attacking me while I was adjusting the males behavior. I almost got arrested, but I would do it again...

I can say without question that I would step in to stop that assault. I would like to say that I would call out verbally and hope it was enough to get the activity to stop, but I expect that I would be physically involved enough to subdue the aggressor. It would not necessarily by my intention to fight them, but definitely enough to stop the action.
I have faced this scenario before in a mall parking lot of all places, it was pretty surreal to be honest, but I was fortunate that the victim did not turn on me as I put her assailant on the deck with an arm bar (chicken wing) take down.
