I might ask them why they did it, and let them know that they are violating Army Regulations, can't remember the AR but I think customs and courtesies. Their rank determines my level of courtesy but it should still be said what they did was unacceptable.

Reminds me of the Sailor that used social media to show that she was sitting down during, I can't remember if it was Reveille or Retreat. She got hemmed up as I recall.

When I first read your question I thought most members are sleeping during reveille but realized you are talking about what the Navy calls colors (National Anthem and taps). I would tell them to get their ass up.

Honestly? Nothing. It's not for me to correct a Soldier anymore. They are grown and can make their own choices and accept the consequences of that choice. Of course I might hover for a bit to see what happens when one of the military leaders come across them. Might be good for a laugh or two lol.

Well if I was still on AD, I'd make them go to attention and have him stand there until his 1SG polices him up.....my other impulse would be to grab him by the ear, and march him over to his 1SG.....either way, Top gets to have the fun re-training him.....

It's not a matter of patriotism, in this case. It's a matter of signing a contract, stating you'll follow published regulations. As we all know, there are very specific regulations, regarding the behavior of Service Members towards the flag, the Anthem, and when Retreat/Reveille are played.

Even as a civilian going through Fort Riley I would stop and get out of my car to show honor and respect for retreat. I would get strange looks but it was such a habit to hear the canons go off and stop that I just did it automatically. When I see sports players and all these others kneel or raising their fists it makes me sick that they do this because the are no longer protesting a cause, they are protesting things that they have started in the first place and continue to cause further issues.

These issues are never going to go away because certain people in powerful places are wanting to cause great racial tensions and continue to divide the this country until we are at war with each one another.

They cannot want it one way but keep doing it another. So for a soldier to kneel, throw a blanket party in his honor that way he will learn right from wrong. If they continue to do it then it's time to make sure this soldier "gracefully" bows out and asks to be chaptered out.

a months worth of flag detail, and some corrective training, would also get this down on paper to start some evidence should this "soldier" try this act again and get caught by another NCO. Probably have him/her write a few 1000 word essays on Customs and Courtesies, Why the Joined the Army, and What the Flag means to them. Sounds like a good start to me.

What does reveille have to do with kneeling when it is the bugle call that tells you to get up and get ready for formation. If they did it for the proper bugle call "to the colors" then I would have an issue with it. Same with retreat. I would not tolerate anyone kneeling.

Ask him for his ID card. Explain the regs about proper flag etiquette. Then I would take him and his ID card to his battalion CSM. I would explain to the CSM what I observed and then hand him his ID and leave.

The next day show up to the briefing where they say, “We understand soldiers frustrations, though there are policies and procedures in place to address these kinds of matters. I saw something like that, the CSM had him stand guard on a Veterans Cemetery for a couple days to show him why we have customs and courtesy’s. It’s not about now it’s about what came before.
