What would you do if you saw someone desecrating the American Flag?

Would you standby and do nothing because you think "It's freedom of speech" or would you properly dispose of it according to Title 18 U.S. Code subsection 700?

How about this...people gave their lives to Defend our rights...that is true...but to have someone take those right and wipe their backsides on it doesn't sit well with me. Call it what you want...but I would rather just have a thank you for your service than seeing some idiot crapping on the flag that is symbolic with those freedoms and those who died to ensure we had them.
You see, SPC, your answer isn't that simple. People have freedom of speech...just like those Westboro Bastards...but does it do anyone any good to spew that garbage that comes out of their mouths? No! It enrages and can cause a riot. Somewhere along our timeline, many lost all sense of decency and doing what is right. And I truly am sorry if I am coming off as bashing you, but it is the type of response that you gave that leaves me scratching my head any wondering if anyone has ANY sense of decent anymore.
OK...rant over.

I can't believe someone down voted your "Kill them and hide the body" response SSG. Must have gotten their panties in a wad. But in all seriousness, if our country is so damn awful to where so many feel the need to disrespect our flag, they just need to leave. Because honestly, THEY are most likely what's wrong with society!

You’re either down with the first Amendment or you’re not.
While I in no way, shape or form support the desecration of our flag, I do support the right for those who choose to.
Supporting free speech, except that which you don’t like, isn’t really supporting free speech.
You can’t pick and choose what rights in the Constitution you support and don’t. You support the Constitution. If the flag issue rubs you raw, challenge it in the courts, and hopefully it gets all the way to the Supreme Court and overturns existing Supreme Court precedence established in UInited States v Eichman (1990).
The Court wrote that, while flag desecration is unpalatable and likely deeply offensive to many people, "the Government may not prohibit the expression of an idea simply because society finds the idea itself offensive or disagreeable."
If that doesn’t work, try to amend the Constitution. Until then, realize that any discussion of limiting someone’s first amendment rights is no better than any discussion of limiting someone’s second amendment rights. Indeed, it’s unpalatable.
Best of luck.

People like that are highly convoluted. They show their distain for a nation who's very constitution protects their right to make jackholes of themselves. If anyone gets offended and takes the bait and punches their lights out, the first thing they do is fall back on their individual rights granted by the constitution. It is often a former service member who gets emotionally overwhelmed at the offense and then catches hell for intervening. For many of us, the American flag is a living entity and symbolizes every loved one that we lost defending our nation. But we are a nation of civilians who go through life clueless as to what the real world is like, and what sacrifices are made to keep the wolves at bay. Now gimme my free stuff for being an American while I light this red, white, and blue rag on fire just because I can. God Bless America.
