SGT Private RallyPoint Member 8799593 <div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>A few months ago I filled out what was needed to attend the Ammo-62 Technical Transportation of Hazardous Material course scheduled 8 September for two weeks. Approximately two months later I received word the Expert Soldier Badge (ESB) competition will be in September around the same time as the HAZMAT course. I haven&#39;t received an email reservation on the course but currently it&#39;s with Division. On one hand I want to do the ESB because 60 promotion points will definitely help with getting promoted. On the other hand, I&#39;m sure being Hazmat certified will help benefit the unit in some sort of way. What advice can you give on this? What would you choose between attending a Hazmat course or to compete for your Expert Soldier Badge(ESB)? 2024-06-29T16:31:47-04:00 SGT Private RallyPoint Member 8799593 <div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>A few months ago I filled out what was needed to attend the Ammo-62 Technical Transportation of Hazardous Material course scheduled 8 September for two weeks. The hazmat course is run 10-12 times a year at all major installations. It&#39;s what you&#39;re planning on going forward. Are you going to retire from the Army or are you going to ETS in the near future. I was That driver while stationed in Germany. I was licensed for every thing in the motor pool, Hazmat was just another of my additional duties. Having the cert didn&#39;t make any difference once I was discharged medically. New bling on the uniform is a better career move. Both look good, both can enhance your career, and HAZMAT can be beneficial outside of the military as well. But getting HAZMAT and being able to compete for ESB is like comparing a stray cat to a g--damn unicorn! You&#39;re ALWAYS gonna see that stray cat, but how often do you get to see a unicorn?!? I can almost guaranteed that if you compete, you&#39;re gonna get recognition. And if you win, your world is gonna open up! That as, provided your chain of command and NCO support channel actaully care about you. Who knows? If you compete and especially of you win, that may bump you to the top of the order of merit list for a lot of different things. No matter what direction you choose to go in, I wish you the best luck that I can offer. The Hazmat courses come and go. Infact, you might be taking a number of them by the time your career is over.
