If you’re assigned to HHC and you’re a PT Stud/squared away you will probably end up in the Recon Platoon/Sniper Section. If not you might end up in the S3 shop doing details and what not. Or from HHC they will send you down to one of the Companies. This includes staff sections, medical sections (although I believe that medical is now consolidated in a support unit) and maintenance support. As a junior enlisted infantry, I imagine you will be helping somewhere in that area. If you are squared away, it is possible you my be the commander's driver..that can be a good spot with high visibility and a great place to learn things from a different perspective. During training exercises, I imagine you will do the same kind of things expected as in a line unit. Guard duty, radio man, and generally being a gopher. But I don't know how infantry BN are organized, so I am just going with educated guessed based on my experience. Wasn't a bad gig, but it wasn't the line either. Every infantry battalion I was in, you had to earn the right to be a Scout/Sniper, so most likely, you'll be in the S3, which means radio guard, details, etc. The only advantage to that as a new Soldier is you get to learn a whole lot of what goes on in the higher command that you don't get to see on the line. Don't let it kill your motivation and bust your hind end and you'll make rank pretty quick and get down to the line with a better perspective on how things work. HHC is just the Headquarters company of a battalion.
Your duties could be as a driver, radioman, security, or any duties or assignments which that need to fill. I got to drive 5ton trucks for a while while serving in a Headquarters company. Earned me a secondary MOS of 64C.
