I think, for a while, he will be viewed as a tough bastard who tried to resist the political elite. Sometimes this will be said positively, sometimes negatively. I think he will fade quickly though, our country is very keen on forgetting "legacies", no matter whose they are. The minute you're out, you're old news, irrevelant. Time to move on to whoever has the power and influence now.

I believe that he will be seen in two ways. First, he was a stabilizing factor during the transition from Trump and the January 6th fiasco. This was good. But with that being said, he allowed a shift in the military too far to the left and helped to open the door to programs that are not to the good order and discipline of the services.
The shift to the left, the enforced vaccine mandate that ended so many careers on unfounded science, and the recruiting shortfall can all be laid in his lap. But he did stand up to an attempted Coup d'etat. History will determine, but I, for one, wish the new Chairman of the JCS would be appointed by a Conservative President in January of 2025.

Of the CoS's in history I don't think he will be studied nearly as much as
George C. Marshall
Omar Bradley
Earle Wheeler (Vietnam)
Colin Powell

When studying the nuances of history he has the luxury of sharing the role of CoS during the GWOT/AFG with 6 other CoS's from 9/11 till the exit of AFG.

When looking at Vietnam............... with 50K~ US casualties across two different CoS compared to AFG at 2.4~K casualties across 6 different CoS the urgency of criticism will not carry as it does other notable events in our history.

His role in history as time progresses will sit on the bookshelves longer and longer collecting more dust over time than many other subjects worth the attention of study.

So I get it.......... yea, right now, right here the exit of AFG was embarrassing.

However, the exit of AFG pails in comparison to the initiative squandered General Mark Clark in Italy during WWII.

How will history remember Miley? Well, for example................ when a similar discussion is brought up in 80 years no one is going to be pulling Miley's name our of their memory as a discussion point like I did with Clark.

Seriously though...I think he will be remembered as a politician in uniform that sacrificed readiness and recrutiment for the woke agenda in our military. Also him being the political advisor to the President during the Afghanistan withdrawal debacle...That is how I will remember him. Most in my memory were pretty good but he is not one of them.
