At this point in infantry technology, any further improvements in the rifle will add both significant cost and significant weight. Rather than focusing on the rifle, focus on the rifleman. Range time increases accuracy, firing rate, reliability, and target discretion, all without additional equipment or weight (which has rapidly spun out of control for the basic foot Soldier).
