What was your tour in recruiting like? Would you recommend it?

I'm thinking about volunteering for Recruiting Detail. Is it honestly as bad as some people make it out to be? What were the cons in your tour and some of the pros?

I think it will honestly depend on the individuals you work for. I had an awesome station commander who looked out for us and made work enjoyable. I just reclassed to return to recruiting. The 11B life was just not for me anymore after 11 years. I enjoyed going home to my family every night on recruiting. It has it's perks but everyone's experiences can differ. Here to answer any questions if you have them.

It really depends enormously on where you are. That's all I can really say.

Half the grey hairs on my head sprouted when I did recruiting. I was managing somewhere around a dozen recruits, as a PFC in my state guard unit. Getting them to drill, linking up with RSP from other units... I was putting in dozens of hours every week (that I was not paid for) trying to chase high schoolers and college students down and get them to fill out paperwork. It was good for my career though, I was awarded the WNY Soldier of the Year Award, and the NYS Recruiting medal with a device. Is is stressful? You bet. But a short (successful) stint doing it looks very good in both the civilian and military realms.
