I played cards. However I did watch band of brothers start to finish on my buddies laptop. Other than that, didn't watch much.

At FOB Warrior, KRAB in Kirkuk (before we left and years before ISIL was just outside the city) I was in a room full of 0-1/0-2s in Iraq. Our Bn put most of us in one room which was nicknamed 'the dairy queen since it was painted red and white. One 1LT from the IDARNG got mail from home with the last season of the Sopranos, Star Trek Enterprise and the remake of Battlestar Gallactica. It felt weird escaping from boring at times FOB and watching something from home. We had a decent tv and stereo since the 25th ID basically gave it to us when the left. We also had and Xbox or a Playstation as well. We had A/C too and we stayed in our room (instead of going to a bunker far away) when they fired the occasional 107mm rocket into our base.

I had picked up a tv series that had 5 seasons. There was also hard drives to copy movies from each other. I got into the tv show Supernatural, it's about two brothers traveling the US chasing Halloween stuff. Had some classic rock, girls and was interesting when it brought angels and demons into it. I stopped watching it, apparently it's a show for teenage girls.

In DS/DS I had one tape, I listened to it over and over. That was Faith no More.
OIF 04-05 I didn't have time to watch much., but watched every episode of Desperate Housewives while waiting to go home on leave.
OIF 09-10 Law and Order, all of them, CSI, all of them and whatever I could get, usually watched a lot of porn on the internet. It was a pretty boring deployment.

Here is a little wrinkle for you; sort of a "blast from the past." We had a 16-mm projector in the team house at A-236 where I was a Camp Conversion Officer. This was on the Cambodian border in 1970. Special Services (I suppose) had movie tins rotated around from unit to unit. We got a couple at a time every two to three weeks. We would prop the tin side panel on the team house up to expose a bed sheet and show the movie to the team members inside while our Vietnamese counterpart cadre and our predominately Montagnard CIDG--along with their families--would sit outside and enjoy, what was for some a "moving picture" miracle. Images were reverse and the language was completely foreign to most of them but they thoroughly enjoyed the spectacle. Generally, they sat quietly and attentively on the other side of the "screen" watching such fare as "Night of the Living Dead" or some slightly dated western. The most memorable night came when we were but a few minutes into the movie when the uproar from outside the team house was so sudden and so loud we all started for our weapons. The movie, "Abbott and Costello Meet the Keystone Kops, (1955)." Physical comedy--a universal language.

On board ship, it was various movies on ship's TV, whatever was available. I did see "The Rock" 23 times on one deployment, after i started counting..lol At breakfast it was always the "Victory at Sea" series on the mess deck TV's, repeatedly morning after morning.

While in Iraq, it was whatever DVD's available, Law & Order, L&O SVU, Combat!, The Shield, Friends, B.O.B. to name a few, random movies and games on the laptop. Played a lot of cards.

One that's been said a few times is The Shield (07-08 tour). Amazing show... During my last tour (13-14), my team leader and I found another show from FX (maybe it was FXX) called Chosen. It was super inappropriate and only lasted for a season, but we thought it was hilarious.

I watched anything with action in it. My wife never lets me watch that stuff at home so the deployment was perfect to catch up on a lot of movies. the 300, troy, gladiator, all of the Blade movies, all of the underworld movies,East bound and down, calcification.

For me I liked escaping thru laughter. I ended up in 2004 watching the three American Pie movies numerous times. Stupid humor I know but it was an escape. I'd laugh so hard at time I'd wake my SGM and he'd have to ask me to please be quiet as it was usually later in the night. I do remember another time we had a group of about 8 of us, MSG 's mom sent a CD of John Wayne's the Green Berets. We watched it until the lady was singing and the movie ended abruptly. We had to wait a month before the MSG's Mom made sure she copied the entire movie to CD. When we finally had it we had to start at the bieginning of course (even though we'd all seen it numerous times before Iraq).

While on ship in the 90s, I must have seen "The Rock" and "Terminator 1&2" 50 times. "A Few Good Men" was another regular movie on AFRTS. Shows like Home Improvement and In Living Color were popular. I watched Star Trek: The Next Generation religiously. We didn't have laptops/streaming devices then. The only video games we had were the Playstation that MWR would check in and out.

Later on, we watched lots of CSI, JAG, just about any crime show. Forrest Gump was a good movie that we would watch.

When I was in we had snail mail and if we were lucky and you had a radio you could listen to AFN. Some of the places I deployed to didn't have that. No computers, no internet and no cell/smart phones.

Our radio and TV in Viet Nam, 1968-69 came from Armed Forces radio and TV through AFVN, Da Nang. The studio was half way up of Monkey Mountain as shown in this picture. One of our favorite TV series was "Combat" a WWII setting starring Vic Morrow as Sgt Saunders.

At Da Nang Viet Nam, in 1968-69 We had both radio and television broadcast from AFVN DaNang (Armed Forces Radio, Vietnam) Shown here is the broadcast studio which was located half way up Monkey Mountain, a high point near Da Nang. One of our favorite TV shows was Combat, with actor Vic Morrow as Sgt Saunders a WWII setting TV series at the time.

When I was at Victory Base Complex 2007-2008 they had a place on base where locals could sell stuff and I found the new Battlestar Galactica series for about $5. I got what I paid for and some discs didn’t play well but it was a good way to unwind
