What was the worst/funniest punishment you had for having your unit's guidon "acquired"?

Moving our racks to the PT field at Benning during OSUT. 4x, lol. (BUNK BEDS. OLD ARMY METAL RACK STYLE. BED, BY BED, UP 2 STORIES, AND DWN TO THE PT FIELD, 485 FEET. I STILL REMEMBER how many steps to the PT field because of it, LMAO ! ) Wouldn't have it any other way. Now at my unit, I watch several other platoons fall to the Scouts and Mortars. Kreepin' Lol. Even painter the tankers tank out front of the barracks pink. Got a month of lock down to post for tht. Needless to say, I think that platoon will always be my true family. It's very ironic that you should post this and I see it as I have a moderately funny story to tell from this past weekend.

So my BN had performed a Change of Command on Saturday. Since we didn't have the ability to bring all the Soldiers from the BN (we have 10 companies spread throughout the country) to the Change, it was Commanders and 1SG/Detachment Sergeant from each unit and the local units supplied the troops. The 1SGs and Detachment Sergeants were the Guidon Bearers for the ceremony. When it was done, of course everyone was invited to say goodbye to the outgoing commander and say hello to the incoming. I was going to go but they were being mobbed so I just went to my car to break down and load up my guidon. As I was walking to the car, I saw about 7 guidons stuck in the ground and pretty much left unsecured. So, as I am loading mine into my car, I see the 1SG from the Ground Ambulance Company walking my way with the guidons over his shoulder and a huge smile on his face as he is heading to his car. He looks at me and says "Look what I found all unsecured. They mine now." So it took a few minutes for the other 1SGs and Detachment Sergeants to realize theirs were gone. Enough time for him to get about 3 broken down and loaded into his car. It was a comical sight to see every 1SG and Detachment Sergeant come running to get theirs back once they saw where they were. The 1SG that grabbed them, his CO just smiled and shook his head and let roll on. The other COs were laughing while saying "WTF." Not sure if any punishment came to the 1SGs, but it was certainly a funny sight.

Well this has never truly happened to me in garrison or a regular unit. It did happen in training though. An instructor took our guidon and hid it in an ammo can in the middle of nowhere (Fort Campbell). The next thing I know I am getting a large envelope from Fedex, so I opened it and it had instructions and grid coordinates as to where the ammo can was located. We looked for it most of the night and finally found it stuck in a tree.

As far as getting back at them, well no that was not going to happen as this was a setup from the start. It was all part of the experience....good times.

When I was at the Marine Barracks in Bangor WA. The Ninth Infantry Division (9ID) was at Ft Lewis WA. We had a pretty close relationship with the 2nd of the 75th Ranger Battalion that was also based there. The Rangers took one of those sheet metal 3Ft high suits of armor t one of the (9ID)Battalions kept as a Mascot, and had us hold it, until the heat was off. We did our best paint job and put him in Dress Blues. At the annual Marine Corps Ball, we invited the 2nd of the 75th's Officers and the 9ID Battalion and higher CO's to the ball. At a private ceremony, after the USMC Ball ceremonies were over, with the permission of the culprits, we returned the "little man".

Three days later, our Mascot, a mostly white Bull Dog, with run of the base, showed up dyed green. Fortunately it was a dye that could be removed with soap and water. And the prank war was ON!!!.
