<p class="pta-link-card-description">A distinctive unit insignia (DUI) is a metallic heraldic badge or device worn by soldiers in the United States Army. The DUI design is derived from the coat of arms authorized for a unit. DUIs may also be called "distinctive insignia" (DI) or, imprecisely, a "crest" or a "unit crest" by soldiers or collectors. The U.S. Army Institute of Heraldry is responsible for the design, development and authorization of all DUIs.</p>

How you ran across it, any of its history, or any other possibly germane circumstances? Also, the metal tabs at the top and on the bottom, I'd tried to view those in closer detail, nothing yet on those...I see certain features on both of those metal tabs on top and bottom that might, I'd thought, possibly be indicative of more info, however, I can't make them out, exactly...also, did you try any of the professional heraldry groups, as I and others here, I think, had also mentioned, perhaps? Any luck with any of those? Any idea of the age? Was is a family piece, so far as you might be able to say? That of friends, maybe? I only ask as I find such research puzzles of interest, sir, so far as you might be able to possibly amplify at all, perhaps, no rush, obv, whenever convenient, many thanks, definitely a most interesting problem, certainly....Response by Capt Daniel Goodman made Aug 3 at 2019 8:26 AM2019-08-03T08:26:33-04:002019-08-03T08:26:33-04:00LTC Gary Earls4877253<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>If you are on "Facebook" go to the American Society of Military Insignia Collectors (ASMIC) and show it to them.Response by LTC Gary Earls made Aug 3 at 2019 1:06 PM2019-08-03T13:06:18-04:002019-08-03T13:06:18-04:00CSM Richard StCyr4911815<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Looks like one I saw a Canadian Army engineer wearing.
