A1C Doug Towsley - I got the Vance and Hines Big Radius Exhaust. Wrapped the pipes. Replaced the pegs and grips for black metal. Upgraded to the LED headlight. Got the screaming Eagle tuner set up and made a custom air filter cover out of expanded metal.
I bought the bike while I was over seas so I'm not sure what tax I paid but I got about 4K off sticker price from the AAFES sales.

I guess I'll throw in. I ride Harleys. And Buell. LOL
I have more bikes then most folks, cause I'm not cured yet.

Took me a while to arrange, but I picked it up on the 29th. I have to take it in on Tuesday for the 1,000 mile first service. It rides super smooth, and the lockable saddlebags are very nice.

I tend to ride after 9 years experience like I am Jason Bourne, and the cars are out out to stop me as contracted killers. That attitude has kept me safe so far.

PO1 Aaron Baltosser - You have it down then. I go through or around traffic as well as I can so I'm in clean air. I absolutely hate being boxed in. I hated it prior to deployments and it hasn't gotten any more enjoyable. Ride safe.

Ninja 300 for now...still new at it so I hot a smaller bike. I will want a 600 next, but the biggest thing to remember is with a 600 you will never open it up all the way. It's more than enough power for riding. Just be careful.. aways!

Awesome bike! After hanging around so many riders, I don't think I could ever get something "small". I'd be ridiculed ;) But still, I envy you because you have one and I don't! Big or small, I bet it's still just as fun!

At 300 cc that has to get ridiculos mileage. Still fast enough to be exciting. Great choice.

PO1 John Crafton, I don't do my own maintenance any longer. When I first started to ride I had fewer responsibilities, more time, and the bikes were simpler. I had more time than money so I did my own maintenance. Now it makes more sense to pay someone else to do it. But, it's not cheap. It goes through tires and brakes pretty quick depending on how I ride. Other than that the maintenance cost can be anywhere from $500 to $1,000 per year for me when I'm riding a lot (1K miles per month).

Yamaha Roadstar 2004 my redeployment gift to myself. picture is of me on the local Road course race track. Full safety gear, lights all taped up and learning about myself and my bike on a racetrack. this was a safety day event for the soldiers and airmen for Fort Bliss and Holloman AFB.

my other bike is a Yamaha V-Star Custom, again a redeployment gift to myself from my first deployment.

it was 85degrees outside and note the full leathers for the track. If you have a chance to get out on a road course track, you'll learn a lot about your bike, handling and yourself, it was a great day,

Add pictures. I want another bike. Maybe a sport. But everyone seems to think I'll get myself killed in an R1.

Historically, cruisers/Harleys have the highest mortality rate. Make of it what you will. Sport bikes certainly handle better, but do they encourage riskier behavior? I can tell you that on the highway, I feel much more confident on my BMW than on my Harley. Your best safety factor is experience and a cool, clear head.

PO1 John Crafton, I have a friend who learned on one and I looked it up at the time. They are cool bikes. I have another friend with a V-Strom 1000. He loves that bike. With a 30" inseam I'm limited in what I can ride. I'm stretching my limits with my K1200GT. I have to be mindful of where I stop.

Yamaha V Star 950 Tourer is very nicely priced and darn the luck. It's getting to be the end of 2016 so the dealers have become motivated sellers. Very low sear height, ready to tour the whole country.

Nice bike! Mine is a 1986 Goldwing aspencade 1200cc. Rides nice, don't know how many miles on it, got it on internet three or four years ago and it has no speedometer or odometer. I use a GPS as my speedometer when I use it.
