What type of models do you or did you like to design, build or assemble?

When I was young I enjoyed building and painting by hand many types of models. There are many types of models available to assemble as well as plans to fabricate your own models for the more advanced modeler. There are a number of different model scales for vehicles and airplanes - 1/72 and 1/35 scale are fairly popular.
Model ships from those with ancient sails through the dreadnoughts of the 20th century to the aircraft carriers and modern ships and submarines.
Did you build models as a child, do you build models with your own children, and do you build models as an adult?

I built primarily HO scale (1/72) WWII armored vehicles when I was growing up. I also built WWII aircraft and some classical ships such as the US Constitution and the HMS Victory. Once I fully retire I hope to build an HO scale railway system for trains around the middle of the 20th century. I still have some of the models I built when I was boy and have acquired quite a few to assemble once I move into a home with a basement.

I built anything military when I was young but focused on armor vehicles when I got older. I built a model of my command track Bradley and that was the last one. I still have some in my garage and I was just looking at those today.

I WANTED to build ships, tanks, warplanes, and muscle cars, but did not have the patience to finish them! I always preferred the ones that other people built!

I used to build my own HO scale scenery (including buildings and bridges) from photographs as well as rolling stock (I only purchased the trucks and couplers). Sadly I don't have the space to pursue that hobby in an apartment. And, to be honest, I don't think I would even if I had the space today (You know: Been there, done that...) I have played with the idea of RC aircraft but since the advent of RC quad drones carrying cameras, that seems more my speed. Then there's model ship building. I was a sailor for more than 50 years (including tall ships) and think that might be a good outlet. Then again, I have been modeling in MineCraft, building a complex cityscape that I may be able to share after a few months more work. Virtual modeling is a lot of fun. It also provides me with another form of storytelling. My cityscape will be used as the setting for a story that players will be able to participate within. Stay posted for details to come...

As a kid I had a model railroad - Lionel, of course and built model planes, mostly military. I am in the process of designing an HO scale switching model railroad. Since it is modern era I plan to scratch build most of the buildings since there are very few kits for modern buildings. Since the layout will be flat (city) the scenery will be mostly buildings. I will post some photos when I get to that point.

When I was a kid, I loved building model battleships. As an adult, I'm trying to get back into the hobby. Built an Academy 1/700th Titanic that came out ok, still need to develop my skillset. Have a Dragon Models 1/700th USS Pennsylvania (BB-38) on order, hoping to do a lot of the WWII era battleships and cruisers as well as a lot of the great ocean liners.

Also hoping to get into more modern military dioramas; I'd love to do one of my Humvee and at least one MLRS launcher from my platoon leader days in Korea.

When I was a kid I was really into models. Then I progressed to RC planes and now am into customizing vehicles. Finishing up a project now... F350 dually with more hp than anyone out to ever need... sure is fun

I have planes, tanks and ships in the stash - of all scales. My largest concentration would AmTracs, LVTs and AAVs. I do not get much hobby time at the moment, school is doing all it can to suck the life out of me.
Attached is Italeri's 1/35 LVT2 with every imaginable after market part I could get my grubby little paws on. It represents an LVT of 3D Landing Vehicle Tractor BN that landed on Beach Green One during Operation Detachment, Iwo Jima, 1945.

My father built a bunch on 1/35th scale tanks, mostly WW2 era. When he passed, I inherited a few of his unbuilt models. I recently started building his unfinished models, the first of which is the M36 Jackson Tank Destroyer. It is a 1/35 scale Tamiya kit. The model i just finished is the F-5E II Freedom Fighter, it's a 1/48 scale Revell kit.
