For the winter months I care the Hornady Critical Carry/Defense; because you get more penetration before the round starts to expand. I run it in 9mm, 40 S&W, and 45ACP. I haven't gotten any for my Glock 20. Since, I use mine as bear backup when hunting. For the 10mm I carry Underwood 200 grain hard cast lead or Buffalo Bore 220 grain hard cast lead. Remember, that if you have to use your handgun against a bear aim for the nose. That way the round has a better chance of dropping a charging bear by going straight into the brain. For summer carry, I prefer either the Sig Sauer Elite Double HP or Underwood makes a round similar to the R.I.P. round that fragments as soon as it strikes a solid object. The Underwood ammo has better penetration performance and less feed problems. Another good summer round are the Glazier Safety Slugs. It's basically a like a shotgun shell for your pistol. But, you don't have to worry about over penetration issues; i.e. when you are at home. It was developed for the Federal Air Marshall's because it won't puncture through an aircrafts outer skin, but will still drop the prepetrator. I will caution you that the Glazier rounds have more recoil than a standard round.<br /><br />And, the reason I suggested that you aim for the nose of a charging animal that requires you to use your handgun; I was a Wildlife Conservation Agent on what is now Joint Base Elmendorf Richardson. And, if we weren't carrying athe least a 12 GA. shotgun, then we carried Smith and Wesson 44 Magnums. That and having lived in Alaska since 2002, plenty of people I've met at one of the local ranges have told me from experience that nose shots on a charging Brown/Grizzly bear will stop them almost instantly. Food for thought.Response by MSgt Kurt Woodward made Feb 19 at 2016 10:04 PM2016-02-19T22:04:45-05:002016-02-19T22:04:45-05:00PO1 Michael Steffens1333773<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>hollow points, like the LEOResponse by PO1 Michael Steffens made Feb 26 at 2016 11:26 AM2016-02-26T11:26:50-05:002016-02-26T11:26:50-05:00SFC Jim Ruether3153218<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I use the same ammo the police officers use.
