What to expect as an E-5 in the 42A world?

42A's can pretty much get stationed anywhere. As for the first two questions...yes and yes.

Keep in mind you are trained as a PAC rat- so, seldom will you be outside the FOB. That's ok, they can't live without you. Almost every unit as an S1/PAC section.

About the same as an E4 in the 42A world.
Just with a little more responsibility and maybe a subordinate or two.
Life doesn't change much for 42As.

If you mean that you're reclassing, you don't get to choose your follow on assignment, so what is "currently" available is a moot question. Just update your ASK and if there's an opening there you may get it as a follow on assignment.
42A work literally everywhere. Every single battalion size element has a 42A and many smaller detachments, Joint branch and joint nation assignments do as well. I believe it is the single most widely dispersed MOS in the Army. I might be wrong about that, but it's hard to imagine an MOS that can be stationed in more locations than a 42A

First, no harm intended but E-5 is a pay grade and you never want to be a pay grade. You will be or are a Sergeant and wear the hard stripes. An HR Sergeant is normally a team leader in the S1 section at the battalion level and higher. Read FM 1-0. You can find it at http://www.apd.army.mil. Additionally, there are a few HR Companies dispersed around the world. These companies solely focus on either Postal Ops, Personnel Accountability or Casualty Ops.

You can request anything as any other Soldier. Be careful What you ask for... you might get it . Admin is NOT a soft MOS as many think it is. not interested in the adm WO field?
